Biomass for heat or power generation has become particularly popular in the UK with the introduction of the Government backed Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) scheme.

By making payments based on heat generated, this scheme is designed to encourage investment in Biomass heating plant for the reduction of Carbon Dioxide emissions.

Payment rates have been reduced over time but remain available for new schemes.
